Top TV of 2022

From apple tv to channel 4, the streaming services gifted us a wealth of brilliant telly last year..

So much so (as seems to be the theme of my posts looking back on last year) I had to limit my list down, narrowing it down to four great shows.

No matter what seems to be going on in my life, I always seem to find the time to sit down and watch TV. As much as I (and my waistline!) would love a more active past time, there’s nothing I love more than unwinding with a hot chocolate in front of the telly. It’s truly amazing how shows can take you away from your life and your troubles and grab your attention fully..even just for 30 minutes.

This is by no means the full list of TV shows I watched and loved last year but these are all shows that got me thinking, got me a little bit emotional and had me hooked from the offset.

Everything i know about love
(BBC IPLAYer/Hulu)

If you’ve followed the previous version of this blog, or happen to follow me on social media, you’ll have figured out at some point I’m a bit of a Dolly Alderton fan girl. She’s one of those people who could publish her shopping list and I’d want to be first in line to read it. So, in case you hadn’t figured out, I was thrilled when I heard her memoir Everything I Know About Love was being made into a 7 episode drama/rom-com series in 2022. Luckily, the show lived up to the (arguably self imposed) hype.

Starring Emma Appleton and Bel Powley, the show delves into romance, female friendships and navigating early adulthood. Much like the memoir it is based on, there’s a nostalgic feel to this series, plenty of humour whilst also not shying away from tender, more emotional moments.

Big boys
(All 4)

After seeing it advertised on the TV, I thought this 8 episode comedy drama looked worth a watch. Aside from alluding to the death of a loved one, the adverts didn’t prepare me for what this show would be. Despite my lack of knowledge of Jack Rooke (or his memoir/advice guide that the show is based on), the show proved to be a hit.

Starring Dylan Llewelyn, the show delves into life, loss and learning about your own sexuality. Much like the memoir it is based around, there’s plenty of laugh out loud moments but no leaving out more impactful, hard hitting stuff as well.

Alma’s not normal
(Bbc iplayer)

I can thank my parents for this one ending up on the list as, as well as being two of the loveliest human beings on the planet (they probably won’t read this post but I might as well make that fact known anyway!), they know their stuff when it comes to TV and film recommendations. Despite my limited knowledge of writer and star Sophie Willan, I loved this 8 episode comedy.

Starring Sophie Willan, Jayde Adams and Siobhan Finneran, the show delves into complicated childhoods, big dreams and the never easy task of getting your life back on track. There’s lot of laughs in this show but also softer, more serious moments which are just as attention grabbing.

Ted lasso
(Apple tv+)

Rounding off this list nicely, and another recommendation a-la-Mum and Dad, is the 22 episode sports comedy drama Ted Lasso. Whilst my knowledge of football (and essentially every other sport in existence) is extremely lacking, I really enjoyed both seasons of this show.

Starring Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein, the show delves into football, family life and finding your feet. The show not only boasts a brilliant ensemble cast, a great soundtrack and lots of laughs, it also looks at mental health and anxiety in a very honest and sensitive way (the only thing I ask for with regards to this show is more details on Season 3!).

So, there we have it, my ‘Top TV of 2022’. Have you seen any of these shows? What were some of your favourite TV shows last year?

Top Albums of 2022: Part One

Here is the first part of my ‘top albums of 2022’. Featuring spector, miles kane and more! After the pandemic delayed the release of eagerly awaited songs and albums for many artists, 2022 proved to be the year the music industry got firmly back on its feet. So many new releases found their way into our ears (and onto our playlists) last year that I couldn’t possibly fit them into one post - believe me, I tried! After much deliberation, I narrowed it down to seventeen (yes seventeen! ) releases that I couldn’t stop listening to last year (and will probably continue to listen to this year - sorry neighbours!). So, let’s get into it! Here are the first 10 releases that have wormed their way on to my ‘Top Albums of 2022’, with release dates from January to May 2022.

Top Tracks of February

I’m playing long overdue catch up but, as february is the month celebrating love, i might as well shout out about one of mine…music! I might be yet to find someone who’ll make me a playlist (sickening I know) but that didn’t stop me from finding new tracks to obsess over in February. January proved to be a good month for music and February seemed to keep this theme going, with plenty of offerings from music heavyweights and newbies alike. Here are my Top Tracks of February 2023… Hard mf 2 luv - bad sounds The third single from brothers-come-bandmates Bad Sounds, there’s an infectious air to the track (despite its  less than positive sentiment) with its jingly instrumentals and whispery vocals. Whether you’re familiar with the duo or not, this song is a perfect introduction (or way to rediscover) their sound. I’m hoping they come back to somewhere local so I can see them live again, as their songs pack a punch when performed for a crowd. Listen here Monday morning - ten tonnes A teaser
